Kathy Hill of the Town of Horicon Historical Society, in cooperation with the Town of Horicon, is coordinating the 2nd Annual Adirondack Shindig set for Saturday, August 8th here in the Town of Horicon's Hamlet of Adirondack, NY.

Shindig is a fun-filled community event but with the noble, important purpose of raising funds to save and restore the now-Town-owned historic 1881 Union Church in Adirondack for use as a much-needed historical museum annex to the Society's existing historical museum in Brant Lake, there is insufficient space to display the thousands of historic regional artifacts dating back centuries.

The photos are from last year's 2014 Shindig, where hundreds of folks danced and enjoyed true North Country community spirit.

The church photo attachments shows that, while the 134-year-old church structure itself is in remarkably sound condition, the original stone foundation is collapsing under that remarkable church structure.

There is grave concern the failing stone foundation will not survive another winter and, if the foundation fails, so too likely would fail the church structure above.

With contributions from many hundreds of individual and businesses to date - and with the sustained support of the Horicon Town Board and especially Town Supervisor Matt Simpson, we are seeking State funding and are ready to award a competitively-bid construction contract to install a new concrete foundation but still have a $ shortfall preventing award of that $66,000 contract.

Hence, despite the north country community fun Shindig provides, its purpose is vitally important: to raise funds to replace the failing foundation and save the historic church for cultural, tourism and regional economy enhancing historical museum adaptive reuse.
