Garrow: The Docu-Drama You Must See

Adirondackers, true crime buffs and move fans from all over have been flocking to see the new film Garrow, is based on the shocking, real-life story of Robert Francis Garrow, a sick and twisted serial rapist and murderer whose reign of terror paralyzed the North Country from 1960 until the late 70s. The docu-drama, written and directed by Lori Kelly-Bailey and edited by Korey Rowe has received tremendous reviews and word of mouth is bringing big crowds to the see it.

The Schroon Lake premiere was this weekend (July 13/14, 2019) and it’s playing every night this week at 8pm.

Garrow was born in Mineville, New York in 1936, Robert’s childhood was an endless cycle of unimaginable horror. Beatings, sexual abuse, bestiality and, bloodshed. As an adult, Robert would become a sadomasochist, rapist and serial killer. The exact number of his victims to this day remains uncertain. A knife-wielding psychopath that could charm his victims before carving them to death. Robert was clever and cunning. This special presentation of the movie GARROW will show Monday, July 15 through Thursday, July 18 at 8:00 pm at the regular ticket pricing of $9.00 for adults and $6.00 for seniors.

1pm -3pm Walk with a AARCH guide and identify the various styles of architecture in our community.

The Schroon-North Hudson Society will be hosting Author Joanne Sheets who wrote "Summertime in a Tourist Town" at 2 pm at the Museum.

Thursday, August 8th ~ "Wash Days"

"Wash Days" is a museum hands on program for children to learn how to wash laundry the old fashion way. They will haul water to the wash tub, use a bar of soap and a scrub board to wash some good ole' fashion laundry including some fun long johns.

They will use the hand ringer to remove excess water, and then wonder over to hang up laundry on an old fashion clothes line.  9:30am -11:30am @ The Schroon North Hudson Historical Society. Free and open to the public!

Another Reference to Scaroon Lake? Say What?

Scaroon Lake? What Gives? Following our earlier story, we discovered this map of Hoffman Township on Scaroon Lake. Essex county. Map #806

More digging in the New York State archives and we learned the following.

Scaroon Lake and Not Schroon Lake?

The year was 1803 when this first appeared in print, a fact we gleaned while noodling around the New York State Archives site.

The headline reads: “Map of two tracts of land called Scaroon Tract and Brant Lake Track. Map #49

“Map of two tracts of land; the northernmost situated in the County of Essex, called Scaroon Tract, and the southernmost in the County of Washington called Brant Lake Tract. Surveyed by George Webster, Deputy surveyor in 1803, Copied by John Randel, Jr., Albany, 27 March, 1804.;The area is now known as Schroon Lake”
