The folks at the Schroon lake Library have some nifty ways to access a lot of the services they offer – without you having to set foot into the library.

“Since the Library has closed the Book Bench has been moved to the Library. It is underneath the Book Drop. The Bench has been restocked with a wide selection of Fiction, Mystery, and children's books, both hard and softcover. Please stop by and grab some books to read. These books are FREE and do not need to be returned.

Have you always wanted to try digital magazines? This is the perfect time to try out our Flipster app on your device. Digital magazines are colorful and easy to read on your device. Digital magazines are available on our website: cefls.org

All you need is the long number on the back of your card. Questions? Call the Library at (518) 532-7737 ext. 13”.

30TH ADIRONDACK MUSIC FOLK FESTIVAL SUNDAY

Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

The Folk Festival will kick off this year, Sunday August 11, 2019  (Noon to 5pm)  with the sounds of:

  • Roy Hurd MC with Tim Hartnett & Skip Smithson

  • Tony Trischka, Avery Merritt, Ethan Setiawan and Larry Cook

  • Atwater Donnelly, Aubrey & Elwood

  • Patchouli with Terra Guitarra, Julie & Bruce

  • Phil Henry with Mitch Barron & Jeff Kimball

The event is hosted by the Schroon Lake Arts Council and has become a destination event in the Adirondacks. Bring a smile, a blanket and a chair and relax on the grass in front of the bandshell for an amazing Sunday afternoon.

But did you know the event has direct ties to  folk legend Pete Seeger and Hollywood star Alan Arkin.?  And it’s all because of one Schroon Laker: Flora Wilson Whitty.

We discovered these gems a few years back from former Arts Council President Jack Osbourne, who passed onto us an amazing story about the  history of the fest, written by by Benjamin Pomerance of the Lake Champlain Weekly.

You can read the full story, kindly reprinted with permission, in here  or download the story here as it appears in the Lake Champlain Weekly.

Dan Berggren and Darlene Gregson also get special mentions for their efforts in bringing the festival to life! Dan and Darlene also helped launch a special the festival, which you can about read here.
