Many of us who are lucky enough to call Gore their “home” mountain, were bummed about the shortened season due to Covid-19. We were among the last to ski there before New York State shuttered all ski resorts. So it was heartening to recently learn there are two new chair lifts on the way and other trail modifications.

The rickety old High Peaks Chair is being replaced with a new quad that will deliver skiers to Gore's true summit, opening up fresh access to all four peaks and the entire Straight Brook Valley. Woot!

More from the folks at Gore:

“The Sunway Chair is also being upgraded with a new quad, creating an even better experience for everyone.  This new lift will feature a modern and comfortable conveyor-style loading area that is ideal for those just getting started and for groups with small children.  Look for a better unloading zone a little further up the mountain too.

The Cutoff trail, previously rated as more difficult, is being lengthened and redesigned as an easier-rated trail. It will offer an additional beginner option for family-friendly adventures, and another place in Gore's improved learning area for novices to practice.

The reservoir for snowmaking is being expanded, resulting in a significant increase of system capacity.  Gore can pump more water through its recently modernized snowmaking infrastructure of automated technologies, energy-saving compressors, and high-efficiency guns to provide quality coverage on more trails earlier in the season”.

This recent investment being made by the ORDA is significant. Just last year the resort became tickles with direct-to-lift access gates equipped with RFID technology. Let’s all hope for a lot more snow and a lot less Covid-19.

G'day And Good Night Gore!

With one of the craziest winters on record – and summer like weather for the last few days – Gore Mountain is officially closing today after the last run.

Just 34 per cent of the mountain is open, with 4 lifts including the Northwood Gondola, and 22 trials. With large sections of grass and rocks exposed, and walking required on many trails, the resort’s operators had little choice but to pack it in. No new snow has been made since the end of February, and what's left has been melting rapidly leaving a muddy mess.

At around 10.45 am today a skier told us there were about 5 people in the lodge and not a soul linning up for the Gondola.

Lift tickets are heavily discounted today and sons under 19 ski free with a paying adult. There are deals galore for early birds who want to buy seasons passes for next season, which come with unlimited scenic rides on the Gondola for the rest of this Spring and Summer.
