Superintendent's Message

Dear Parents, I hope you and your child had a great 1st quarter! Here are a few interesting things going on at SLCS.

At our School Board Meeting on October 25, representatives from the CVES BOCES presented public information about their proposed $29.850,000 capital improvement project. The cost of the project to Schroon Lake taxpayers will be just over $400,000. Residents in the seventeen component districts in our BOCES will be able to vote on the proposed project on Tuesday

December 11, 2018 from noon until 8:00 pm in the Schroon Lake Central School auditorium and at the other school district buildings. To learn more about this project, please click here.

*A lot of things are happening at SLCS. To view pictures of activities at SLCS and to get information on upcoming events, please check out our school Facebook page here.

*The SLCS Adult Continuing Education Program is off to an excellent start. Community members are encouraged to get involved in this (mostly) free series of classes and activities. For information on what the program offers, please check out our website here.

*Our new videography elective at SLCS is going well. The students have created a nice “This week at SLCS” video feature. Please check out their latest clip here

*SLCS is partnering with Hudson Headwaters to create an in school dental clinic. This service, which will include cleanings and dental examinations, will be offered free of charge to all SLCS students. Please call the school office at 518-532-7164 for more information.

*Schroon Lake Central School is recognized by the Office of Homeland Security as a school certified to host tuition paying International Students. In recent years, SLCS has successfully hosted high school students from Spain, Russia, and Vietnam. SLCS is now looking for local host families to welcome International students into the homes for the 2019-2020 school year. Placements can be for half of a year or for a full year. All students speak English and host families receive a stipend participating in the program. Please contact Superintendent Stephen Gratto if you are interested in learning more about being a host family.

*School will not be in session from November 21- November 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

*Our annual Holiday Concert will take place on December 6th starting at 6:30 pm. This is a full District concert, so students in grades pre-K through 12 will be performing. We hope everyone in the community will be able to attend.

I appreciate your continued support of the students, faculty, and staff at Schroon Lake Central School. I hope you and your child continue to experience success here. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

Regards,

Stephen Gratto
