Schroon's Secret Book Store and Art Gallery

If you are looking to expand your ADK knowledge, either fact or fiction, there’s a little known book store tucked away in one of the busy stores on Main Street Schroon.

It’s tucked away at the back of the Towne Store, which is celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, under the ownership of Patti and Bob Mehm.

From local writers   --  Ann Breen Metcalfe, to Carol Gregson -- the shelves are packed with a delicious assortment of Adirondack inspired novels, coffee table books, hiking guides and more. There’s even an ADK kids section, along with gorgeous postcards and posters. And that’s in addition to what we like to call Schroon’s Secret Art Gallery. Venture upstairs and you’ll discover a treasure trove of original work by local and North Country artists.

It’s Art In The Attic, where works from more than 20 artists are on display and for sale. Patti turned the space into a gallery about six  years ago, to showcase the works of some of the area’s talented artisans, from sculptors, to painters, to photographers, potters, wood workers and water colorists.

“My concept was initially to bring local artists together and have a place for them to show their works,” Patti told Schroon Laker.

“A lot of our artists (on display) are from this area, but we’ve expanded, and now feature many talented crafts folks from up and down the north east are represented here.”

“I wanted a space where folks could pick up an affordable piece of art to take home with them.

Where and When: The Town Store. 1089 Main Street  Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
