Locals know what a gem our Schroon lake Library is – but if you are visiting with us for the summer come check out the library, located at the Town Hall.

And we have a terrific insiders tip for you: The Friends Of Schroon Lake Library host a twice weekly used book sale in the basement of the Hudson Headwaters Building, each Wednesday and Saturday, from 10am - 2pm. Here's what's coming up:

July 23

If you are in town next Tuesday, July 23rd, and have happened to have read The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene, you are invited to check out the library’s book discussion group. Details at (518) 532-7737.

July 25

Dig into Reading with a Raptor/Birds of Prey Demonstration at 1pm. You'll learn all about owls, hawks, eagles and falcons, their unique behaviors and the conservation issues that impact them at this live animal demonstration from the Wildlife Institute of Northeastern New York.

July 28

Annual Schroon Lake House and Garden Tour, sponsored by the Frinds of Schroon Lake Library.

September 5

Creative Aging for those 55 plus. If you are of a certain age and always wanted to draw, now is your chance with a series of Basic Drawing Classes. Registration begins August 1st and runs for 8 sessions. The class is taught by the legendary local artist Annie Gregson. Thursdays 10:00 a.m. —12:00 p.m: September 5, 12, 19, 26. October 3, 10, 17, 24. You must sign up for all of the sessions. Details at (518) 532-7737.

There will be a public reception and Art Exhibit: Friday, Oct. 25th 4-6pm

September 24

The Underground Railroad helped tens of thousands of slaves to freedom before the Civil War, and thousands came through the Lake Champlain Corridor to Canada. Join us as Peter Slocum, from the North Star Underground Railroad Museum, shares with us his extensive knowledge of the history of the Underground Railroad and Essex County’s abolitionists John and Mary Brown. 7pm at the Library.

Public Art reception of the Creative Drawing Workshop class.
