All Signs Point To Schroon

Up until 1966, there was no shortage of traffic rumbling through Schroon Lake, when Route 9, known then as the International Highway, ran right through downtown heading north to Canada.

But with the completion of the I-87 Northway, that large volume of traffic disappeared  -- making Schroon the quiet little hamlet that it is today -- but also diverting business away from our town.

But thanks to some new signage, business owners are hoping to expose Schroon to some potential new customers. The signs will be installed at each end of Route 9, at exits 27 and 28. Sharon Piper, co-owner of the Schroon Lake Bed And Breakfast, gives us a sneak peek in the photo above (she’s holding the sign) at what the new signage will look like when installed.
