Take the Worry Out Of Owning a Camp or Home

If you are a long time camp or home owner, or are about to become one, there are multiple responsibilities that come with this honor – thanks to the extremes of our four seasons. From winterization, to opening it up for the summer, to everything in between, there are literally dozens of details to attend to.

But there is a family owned business based in the hamlet of Adirondack, Adirondack Home Watch, that cane takes the worry out of home ownership, for both year round and seasonal folks.

The business is run by Kathy Hill, a native Adirondacker who has resided in Warren County her entire life.

Together with her husband Mike, thid dynamic duo can take care of just about any detail to do with your home or camp, from security, property and concierge services. Some recent testimonials:

“We recently bought a home on Schroon Lake which we rent out.  The people at Adirondack Home Watch not only take care of the property when we aren’t there, they help our renters with any concerns there might be around the house and property.  Although tenants check themselves in, it is a real comfort to know that we have someone there locally to help out if a problem comes up.  At one point last winter, in checking our fuel supply, they realized that we were almost out of oil.  They were able to follow through and make sure we could get a delivery, avoiding the possibility of a real mess.  They can also check on the property after a tenant departs but before our cleaner can get there.  I don’t know how we could rent our home in the Adirondacks without them".

And

“We have owned a weekend / vacation home on Schroon Lake for 25 years.  The people at Adirondack Home Watch have been an incredible resource.  When we need help with something and can’t be up there, they take care of it.  On one visit they found the ignitors for our stove running continuously.  They disconnected the appliance and arranged repairs.  They have been able to bring power and prevent a freeze up during winter storms.  They have identified that we were low on fuel and arranged delivery.  The piece of mind of being able to call a local resource, who we can trust, to take care of things when we aren’t there is priceless.”

A Great Camp At a Great Price

Realtor Brooke Clark describes her newest listing as a true “great camp”.  It’s a spacious five bedrooms, with three on the first floor, each with their own bath and private entrance.

Two more bedrooms are on the second floor on 2nd floor, accompanied by a large living room.

From Brooke: “Every room in this beautiful home has a view of the lake. Hardwoods, large eat in kitchen. Bring the outside in with a beautiful sliding door off the kitchen. Huge front porch with gazebo for entertaining.  A stone wall at the lakefront borders an 84 foot gorgeous wide sandy beach. Excellent rental history."

It’s less than two miles south of town on the west side of the lake, which makes it easily accessible to Gore, Whiteface, Lake George and the High Peaks.  The home is one of several cabins, once referred to as honeymoon suites, which were part of the Alburnorm Casino and Hotel.

Schroon Landmark Inn For Sale

Schroon Lake’s Lakeview Inn, a 1891 fully renovated farmhouse with many stand-alone units is for sale. Owner Patti Mehm is selling the year round home and seasonal business she acquired in 2003.

The property has been continually upgraded since then and now features an owner’s residence with full kitchen, a hotel unit over the office, four efficiency Units (all newly remodeled in 2014), four Inn/hotel style boutique rooms -- most with Jacuzzi’s & Fireplaces.

Then there are three detached cabins built in 2009 and a hotel style room with a private entrance. Patti has decided to sell the property to concentrate on her Towne Store and popular Barley and Vine Wine Tasting Bar, which opened last year.

“The Inn business is turnkey. We have regulars who come each year and a proven track record of steady income,” Patti told us before taking off for a well-earned break.

“It’s an ideal business for anyone who would like a home to live in, and have a revenue stream.”

Indeed, a check of their upcoming reservations on their website shows multiple bookings for the 2016 season.

The property, just south of the village on Route 9, has deeded beach access and is just minutes from everything Schroon has to offer. The farmhouse and property features a rich history. From Patti:

“Even though it has undergone many changes in recent times, the Inn has a long lodging history and has stayed very much the same.    A few years back we met a wonderfully charming woman, Frances Bogle whose great grandfather built the homestead which her family operated until 1976 (an amazing 95 years of hosting what would be known as a Bed & Breakfast today).   Frances, who is a very vibrant 92 years young, provided us with extensive history, valuable memories and wonderful pictures. The original homestead was built in 1881, by Captain William Lycett.

William  was a Captain in the Civil War and purchased the  property with his muster from the war. It was run as a lodging house, called Spring Valley Farms for many years.  From 1910 – 1927 it was leased to a boy’s camp called Camp Mondawmin, then later to the Cambridge Tutoring School for rich boys. Fran’s grandparents and parents ran it as Lycett’s Rooms & Cottages and would be considered a Bed & Breakfast today.  Fran and her two sisters grew up and went to school in Schroon Lake".

“It’s sad to say goodbye, but it’s now onto another chapter of life,” Patti said.

You can email Patti by clicking here, or call  (518) 791-3578. The property is listed as a For Sale By Owner.
