Lake Life: Get Into It!
It is actually warm and dry. Best of all, people are coming back. We have seen many snowbirds return already and, as I write this, Memorial Day Weekend is on the horizon. Those of us who are “year ‘rounders” have been pulling off layers of clothing, putting in docks and checking for when that last frost will be. Withers was jammed tonight and there were few parking spaces on Main Street.
As we roll up our sleeves for work in better weather, we need your help making the Schroon Lake Watershed a better place. The Schroon Lake Association has been protecting our lake since 1911 and we need your help more than ever this year.
For starters, join us or renew with us. A membership form is enclosed. Please consider making an extra tax deductible contribution to the SLA. Water testing, milfoil fighting, paying for Lake Stewards at boat launches, and education will take in the neighborhood of $20,000 for this year alone.
Come to our meetings. General Membership Meetings are on Friday July 12 at 8 pm at the School Auditorium and Friday August 9 at 8 pm at the Boathouse. On July 12th we will have a presentation by famed Adirondack photographer Carl Heilman. In August our Town Supervisor Mike Marnell and other public officials will report. We are hoping to have our Congressman Bill Owens speak.
Come to our Board of Directors Meetings. They are the first Monday of the month: July 1 and August 5th at 9:30 am in the Schroon Lake Town Hall. We are open to the public and look forward to seeing members.
Join our Board of Directors. We have openings this year as people rotate off the Board. We need new blood and folks willing to put in some “sweat equity.” Every community organization needs one of “ 3 W’s” from its Board and members: Wisdom, Work or Wealth. Can we get a “W” from you?
Come to and help with our functions. In addition to coming to the Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday July 20th, spend an hour helping run our booth or setting up or taking down. The same goes for Waterfest at Chestertown Town Hall on Friday July 12th.
Help Nancy Belluscio create our Float for the Fourth of July Parade! I’ll bet you’ve never made a parade float before; have a new experience! Have you ever tested lake water quality or hunted for invasive species? What an adventure! You can help us do it free of charge!
Join in our fundraisers. Buy a raffle ticket for a Hornbeck Black Jack Canoe! Buy a raffle ticket for a Carl Heilman poster! Or buy a duck (or lots of ducks) for our Labor Day Duck Race! (Please play responsibly!!)
So check out our schedule. Email me mgranger@mgrangerlaw.com or call me 518-532-7459. We will get you plugged in!
