The Great Duck Race Of 2011
Photos By Robert Philp
The 5th Annual Schroon Lake Association Duck Race turned out to be just ducky, as a roaring creek and cheering fans made this year’s event one of the best.
The crowd waited patiently as several late entries were added to the field. The race participants, well over 200, were dunked into the fast moving Mills Creek just after 2 pm Sunday and floated to the finish line in record time, thanks to a fast course, courtesy of Irene’s record rains of last week.
The ducks had all been “adopted” for a $5 fee, with the proceeds going to help keep our lake clean and beautiful by the dedicated folks at the Schroon Lake Association.
And three “lucky ducks” won some bills for the folks who had adopted them. Congrats to Seth Glassman from Pound Ridge, N.Y in first place, Schroon Lake Town Clerk Pat Savarie who came in second and Nancy Belluscio -- the race announcer, and proprietor of the Tumble Inn, taking third place honors.
