Oh Deer, Hunting Season Begins This Weekend

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Hunting season for big game starts across much of New York state this weekend.

The regular deer and bear season in the state's Southern Zone begins at sunrise Saturday and runs through Dec. 10. The Southern Zone stretches across upstate New York, excluding the Adirondacks and northern reaches of the state.

New York officials say the Southern Zone regular season is New York's most popular hunting season, with about 85 percent of New York's 575,000 licensed hunters taking part.

Northern Zone hunting season opened Oct. 21 and will close Dec. 3.

Die hard snowboard and ski lovers are counting the days until  Saturday: That's when the first chair spins at 8:30 am and again on Sunday (November 18 &19). The resort hopes to open with the top of Little Whiteface to bottom access and the Mixing Bowl for beginners. The Base Camp Market, Taste NY and Mid-Station will open with a limited menu.

Their rental and tune shop will be fully operational.  BTW: Friday is the last day to get the best deal on a season pass.

Meanwhile, it won't be long before Gore is open. The  resort hopes to welcome their first skiers of the season Thanksgiving weekend.

Schroon Lake's New Expanded Library Opens Tuesday

Less than a year after breaking ground, the new expanded Library section of the Town Hall million dollar renovation is open. The new digs also include offices for Town employees, a new court and Judge's chambers. The total cost of the overhaul is more than $1.1 million, which the town hopes to fund with a bond issue. Meanwhile, the Library is on a fund raising campaign to help buy furnishings for the new space. More than $45,000 has been raised.
